The Season For Apples

The Season For Apples

The Season For Apples

British apples have been around since the Roman era, and we have the Victorians to thank for our wealth of variety. It was Pembrokeshire proverb that we have to thank for the lesser known saying "Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread." - which has been later adapted into the famous "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Nothing beats a crisp Autumn apple and we love to use them across our Autumn menus in a host of different recipes. Here are just a few reasons why...

Highly Nutritious

Apples are rich in vitamins and minerals including the immune busting vitamin C, vitamin K, copper and potassium. Just one apple feeds you with 10% of your RDI of vitamin C.

Rich in Antioxidants

Apples provide a healthy source of polyphenols, an important group of antioxidants responsible for enhancing digestive function and cognitive wellbeing. It also helps prevent conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancers from developing.

Improve Gut Health

We all know that a thriving microbiome (gut) is crucial for our overall health. As well as being high in fibre, apples are packed with pectin, a fibre that serves as a prebiotic within your gut microbiome.
