5 Nutritious Soup Ideas for Getting Closer to Your ‘5 a Day’

Soups are amazing meals because of their versatility. They can be enjoyed at any time of the day or as a starter to a multi-course meal. Plus they can be eaten with a range of bread, toasts, and other extras. Not only this, but there’s an enormous range of ingredients that can be used to create many different types of soup, from spicy to sweet and sour, from thick to thin, and from smooth to chunky. Not to mention that they’re a superb way to get closer to that ‘5 a day’ goal!

5 Dairy- and Gluten-Free Soup Recipes

Here are five vegetarian soup recipes, some of which are based on classics. The best thing is that they’re all gluten- and dairy-free so everybody can enjoy them! Tomato and Chickpea: Chickpeas are a fantastic source of protein for vegetarians and vegans as well as aiding weight management and improving digestion. Plus, tomatoes are a great source of vitamin C which is important for healthy and glowing skin. Greens and Grains: Not only are greens low in calories which makes them ideal for those aiming to maintain or lose weight, but the grains are also a great source of protein and fibre which will help your digestive system. Leek, Seasonal Roots, and Potato: Root vegetables are brilliant as they contain beta-carotene vitamins which the body can convert into a range of other vitamins like vitamins A, B, C, and folate. In addition, leeks are a great source of iron and copper. Carrot and Ginger: The antioxidants in ginger clean your digestive system, making it a wonder food for fighting cancer and a host of other diseases. Meanwhile, carrots are linked to better eyesight and lower cholesterol levels. Mushroom and Black Bean: Mushrooms are great because they contain a lot of vitamin B which help with red blood cell synthesis which, in turn, helps to fight diseases. Also, black beans are a great carbohydrate alternative and they help your body process calories more effectively. These are all great options because, not only do they provide you with protein, fibre, and crucial vitamins and minerals, but they’re also dairy- and gluten-free. Soups are a great way to incorporate these crucial nutrients into your diet so try them all and find out which is your favourite!
